Earlier I have made and article on how to find an ideal beginners guitar. Now I’ve thought it might be a good idea to write about finding the perfect guitar for your child. The reason I’ve decided it is a good idea is because there are a lot of kids that wish to learn how to play guitar and their parents don’t know much about it. One of the major difficulties these parents face is choosing the proper beginner guitar for their kid to learn on. Although you do not want to purchase something very expensive, because you don’t know if your kid is actually going to stick with it for longer than a few days, you also do not want something too cheap, because it can make it really difficult for your child to learn. Cheap guitars go out of tune a lot and brake all the time. The problem most parents come across is figuring out the way where both parents and children can be happy.
Essential thing to take into account before buying beginners guitar is its size. Based on how old or big your kid is you really need to provide the proper guitar for them.
That’s because, their hands and fingers are too small for them to be able to use a regular guitar. Typically children between ages six and eight need a guitar that is half the size of a normal one. Kids that are ages between nine and thirteen need a guitar that is three quarters of a regular one, and kids thirteen and older can begin using a standard size guitar.
Next thing to bear in mind is whether or not to purchase a nylon string guitar or a steel string. I am a firm believer in nylon string guitars for beginners. And that goes not solely for children but for adults as well. This is why. When someone is just beginning to learn to play guitar their finger tips become really sore from holding down strings on the guitar. Nylon strings are not as tough on fingers as steel ones. They will still hurt, trust me, however they will not hurt as much. This will make it a lot easier for your kid to learn guitar and you will be happy knowing that your child now has a higher chance of succeeding.
Here is a list of some guitars that will be good for your children to learn guitar on:
Yamaha CGS102A is a half size guitar with nylon strings and is perfect for kids 6-8 years old. Price varies between $190 to $120.
Yamaha CGS103A is a three quarter size guitar with nylons strings and is perfect for kids 9-12 years old. Price varies between $210-$130.
Yamaha CG101A is a full size guitar and works great for anyone age thirteen and higher. Price varies between $310-$145.
You should have no trouble finding these guitars at your local guitar stores. If you are having difficulties finding them you can buy them on the net. Musician Friend and Amazon are always excellent for buying guitars online. I suggest doing some research to figure out which one has better pricing because it varies on a daily basis.
