Sing Like an Angel, Extend Your Vocal Range

As a singer it is a dream to be able to sing high notes effortlessly. These simple singing tips will help you on your way to be able to extend your vocal range.

These techniques assume that you have a good grasp on the basic foundation of singing. Without comprehension of the voice it is possible to harm your voice by over training.

If you would like to improve your vocal range, you must have a good idea what your range covers today. Range is defined as where you can comfortably sing from the lowest note to the highest, the majority of the time. The divisions of ranges are bass, tenor, alto and soprano. The steps needed to enhance your voice will occur over a long period of time, do not get impatient. A complete warm up is necessary before you work on  any advanced technique. Deliberate  is the key word here. A professional singer will always be seen vocalizing prior to the performance. This is not for show, but to warm up their voice. Make sure you do the same. If you learn nothing else in this lesson, learn to warm up. If you vocalize before you perform, your voice will be pliable . You are never too old to sing because if you warm up your voice will last for a very long time.

If you want to improve even faster, record your voice during your lesson and performances. If you can  sincerely judge your performance, you can improve much quicker. This is an  exceptional method to hear your performance, learn from your mistakes and triumph over your success as well.

Work in front of a mirror as you begin to cultivate your voice. Your vocal cords are the only part of you that should move while you sing; which is to say that nothing needs to move in order to produce a higher note. When singers lift their jaw when they try to sing higher, they are constraining the vocal cords and working against themselves.

In singing, it is all-important  that you work with a college-level course or a accomplished teacher while improving your vocal range. This will guarantee that you have the guidance that you need.

How To Care For Your Guitar

Care and maintenance can sometimes seem secondary to playing, but if you want to continue playing for a long time, then it’s absolutely vital. We have assembled some of the best tips to keep your guitar in tip-top condition. By following these steps, you will find that the guitar will last as long as you want it to! Keeping your guitar in the best possible condition is paramount to enjoying the full life and playability of your instrument.

·    After Practicing
The deterioration of the strings is a common problem amongst guitarists. If the strings start to rust, then they become very rough and have a higher propensity of cutting into your fingers. To prevent this, make sure that as soon as you have finished practicing take a soft cloth and clean the strings. A guitarist with cut fingers is not going to play as well, so it is important to make sure that the strings of your guitar do not get to this stage.

This is a very simple action, but it will get rid of all the oil, dirt and sweat that can accumulate on the strings. Before you re-case your guitar, you might want to think about applying a thin layer of string conditioner – these solutions are relatively inexpensive (a good one will cost less than ten US dollars) and they do a great job of preventing the oxidization of the strings that causes them to rust.

·    Clean the fretboard
The next time you change your strings, take a look at the fretboards and clean them with a damp cloth. As well as the strings, there can often be an accumulation of dirt and grease around the fretboards. If unchecked, this can damage the sound of the guitar, and eventually the integrity of the instrument.

·    Care for your body!
A lot of people neglect the body of the guitar as they focus too much on the strings and the fretboard. Whilst these do need a lot of attention, paying a bit of attention to the body of your guitar will prolong its life by a large factor. All you need to do is polish it regularly with a lint-free cloth. Make sure you use only guitar-specific polishes – some of the more widely available household polishes are more likely to be abrasive and cause some serious damage.

·    Storage
For ideal conditions, you should be looking at storing your guitar at around 50% humidity and a temperature of around 25 degrees C. Your guitar is a very sensitive instrument, and is extremely sensitive to the environment in which it is stored. Wood is a porous substance, which means it can absorb moisture. Whilst most guitars are tolerant to a range of temperatures, excessive moisture will cause swelling which in turn causes the wood to warp and affects the overall sound.

·    Scratches
It seems an obvious thing to say, but I have seen so many people make this mistake! Before you begin to play, make sure you remove all jewellery and other accoutrements that might scratch your instrument. Obviously, rings and bracelets could do this, but I have seen many people scratch or damage their instruments through simple things like belt buckles or the buttons on their jeans!

Guitar maintenance is not rocket science, and by treating your guitar with the respect that it deserves, you will prolong the lifespan of your guitar. For the majority of the time, simply by applying common sense you will get better rewards out of playing it.

Many of the Jamorama ads found online raise the question ofr whether Jamorama is a scam – well you have no reason to be concerned, it isnt..The order process is safe and secure (it is handled by clickbank, a respected online agency for merchants selling digital products), so no need to be worried about your credit card details falling into the wrong hands. Add to this the knowledge that Jamorama offers a 60 day money back guarantee and there is really no need to be concerned.

With my order processed I was immediately given access to the Jamorama Course material. As expected they came in ebook format (2 of them actually, once for beginners and one for more advanced guitarists). The material is well structured and consists of 252 pages.  The student has her hand held and is taken through 148 video examples and exercises. The simplicity of the lessons means that the they are straightforward enough for the beginner to pick up. You should very quickly move from identifying the various components of the guitar, and establishing recomended posture through to the more advanced guitar playing techniques and tablature skills.

It is outstanding value for money. Learning The Piano – The Top Ten Reasons Why

Below we have put together just 10 of the many reasons to learn to play. The piano is a marvelous musical instrument Also, it’s one of the best things that you can do for yourself- it can make you feel great, and it’s not as difficult as you might think! There’s no-one who doesn’t appreciate the incredible sound that can come from those ivories! If you have even the slightest inclination towards learning, then there’s no reason not to.

1) All of the advancements in multi-media and communication simply add to the fact that learning to play the piano is incredibly easy! Professional teachers, learning by DVD or even online tutorials are available to you. There really are no obstacles in your way!

2) Personally, I prefer the DVD route when it comes to learning, as you can learn to play at your own leisure – you can pause to make a cup of tea whenever you want, and you can learn at your own pace. There is a much lower cost of learning, and it has gone down considerably over recent years.

3) It’s a wonderful gift to give someone. It’s a real treat to be able to share music with those around you – loved ones such as grandchildren, children or that very special someone.

4) A quick visit to your local library will present you with sheet music for all levels of expertise. You can even go online and print off sheet music – some websites even let you listen to the music online as you play, so you can get a real feel for the song. Have you got a favorite song? Then playing the piano will enable you to play it and hear it any time you want! If you’re like me, then you will have listened to a song and then thought to yourself that you wished you could play that! What, exactly is it that is stopping you from doing so?

5) There’s really nothing better for that bonding experience. For hundreds of years the music of the piano has brought people together – imagine if you could initiate a sing-song with your family! Believe me when I say it really is a special experience for all the family – to take it a level further, get them to join in – there is a great deal of music that can be played by two people at once.

6) The more you play, the longer you will learn – you get a lifetime guarantee with playing the piano. Your expertise will grow with age. It’s a bit like riding a bike – you never forget, but unlike riding a bike it doesn’t get more challenging the older you get!

7) It’s like having your own mini-orchestra! The piano is a wonderfully versatile instrument – you can play simultaneous notes on it without too much difficulty, which is why it stands out from other instruments.

8) You will find that your appreciation for the music that you hear every day will increase exponentially. You will get a much better idea of what the composer was trying to say and the point that he/she was trying to get across. A lot of people hear the music and automatically think of ways that they could improve it!

9) The piano does not require the physical exertions of, for example, the guitar or the violin! Physically, playing the piano is much easier than other instruments – it doesn’t take much of a toll on the body. Some people continue playing to a very late age.

10) Almost any concert you go, anywhere and at any time will have a keyboard somewhere on the stage. The tradition of the piano is well-founded. The piano has also influenced countless genres of music, and has also given rise to many more since it first arrived on the scene 250 years ago.

The above list is only a very few of the countless reasons why you should learn to play the piano – there are many many more – I’m sure that you could even think of a few more yourself! Learning the piano is a wonderfully gratifying experience, and when you learn properly you won’t regret it. It really is one of the best things you could ever do for yourself.

Which Guitar Is Best For Me?

If you don’t know anyone who can play in order to ask for advice, or you are simply not completely clued up on the genre, then buying your first guitar can be a very difficult task. When it comes to learning to play the guitar, probably the most difficult task you will face is often the first: buying one to begin with.

A lot of people take the advice of the shop assistant, which can often turn out to be a little misguided and driven by his desire to make a sale rather than getting the best deal for yourself. Many people, me included, make the mistake of buying a nice economical purchase to start learning on, and find that it does not even come close to meeting their needs.

If you are currently seriously looking into buying a guitar in order to learn to play, then you should know that there are a few things you need to be aware of. Before you part ways with your hard-earned cash, take a look at the list we have compiled for you.

1. What style of music do you want to play?

It may sound quite obvious to say that an electric guitar is more suited to rock music whereas an acoustic guitar is better for strumming and singing along. However, many people make this mistake. Make sure you keep this in mind so that you don’t get pressured into buying something that will not be suitable for your needs. You will know what you want to play, and what you want to learn.

2. How much can you afford?

In reality, you should be looking at paying somewhere in the region of $250-$300 (US) for a decent electric guitar, and around $150 (US) for an acoustic. Your first guitar should be seen as an investment – an investment in your own musical future. Bear this in mind when you set yourself a budget for what you want to spend. If this is your first guitar, and you’ve never played before, then do you really want to spend thousands of dollars on a top-end instrument?

When you decided on the style of music that you want to play, and the budget that you can afford, then it’s time to make the decision on which guitar you buy. This is often a fraught step, and will take a little time to get it right, but the time is well invested to make sure that you get the right instrument. Bear in mind your answers to the questions above, and consider the following.

· Try before you buy. Try as many guitars as you want! Buying your first guitar is a little like buying a new car – you wouldn’t just take the first one you see, right? There’s also no reason why, at this stage, you shouldn’t be looking at guitars that might be outside of your budget – by doing this you will be getting a good idea of the range available to you, and the big differences that exist from one guitar to another.

· Examine the playability of the frets. Check out the condition of the frets as well – do they show signs of excessive usage? Do they look worn out? Play a note on each fret, and listen to the noise that it makes. If you can detect a small buzzing noise, then this can often point to the fact that the guitar is not set properly, or in worse cases, signify poor workmanship.

· Many people buy guitars online, and it can be a quick and easy way to purchase your first guitar. If this is a road you wish to go down, then make sure that you fully check out the reviews of that particular guitar, and look at the user reviews as well to get a better idea of whether this guitar is right for you. The advantages of this are that it can be cheaper than a high street store, and it will often arrive straight to your door.

· Try and find one that fits like a glove and plays a sound that you personally find pleasing! Do this and there is a much higher chance of you staying with that guitar for a longer time. Make sure you select a guitar that you like and that you feel comfortable with.

Playing the guitar can be a wonderful pastime, full of reward and great fun. Don’t get pressured into spending more than you can afford, as this will only produce resentment on your part, and you are therefore much less likely to continue. If you are a beginner, and are trying to learn to play a guitar for the first time, then you should seriously consider all of the above before you even start.

Marching band, the beat of a different drummer

Marching band music can be difficult, but with experience you can learn to do it well. Playing music that is memorized is hard enough, but couple it with marching together and you have a real challenge. Before you can put the music and marching together, you must memorize the music. As you learn the music, listen for patterns and repeats that will make it less difficult to remember. If you never have learned to read music, now is a great time to start.

Memorization tips for marching band

Divide the music into three parts, look for any parts that repeat. This will reduce the time needed for memorizing if you look at it this way. The parts in band are often played by more than one instrument. Listen to what the others are playing if you get lost. Take the music a few bars or a sequence at a time. Play a sequence with the music and then try to repeat what you just played without the music. After you can remember one section, try to connect it with the next sequence.

Pat your tummy and rub your head, this is a challenge

You can be proud of your accomplishments in marching band after you learn the basics. Quick tips for memorizing are as follows:

Start to become familiar with the music before you begin the marching, if you can.

Divide the music into sections so it is easier to work with.

If you can find parts that repeat, you only have to learn one section.

If you get lost, don’t panic. Listen to the other parts which are often doubled by other instruments.

Choosing an instrument may be hard if this is your first exposure to music. This could be a good time to try an instrument and see if you like it.

Take great pleasure in the time you spend in marching band, it may well be a lasting, cherished memory.

A New Pilgrimage: Music in Israel

It may be surprising to some that some of the best musical artists in the world have performed in Israel, considering the fact that this tiny country usually makes the news due to a bombing or political problem. Just recently, the mega-star band Depeche Mode performed an action packed concert to a sold out audience of 40,000 people. Every summer, some of the best jazz and blues performers from all around the world play at the Red Sea International Jazz Festival in Eilat. The Zephirelli production of Carmen and La Boheme were recently performed in the Israeli Opera House with an international cast of the greatest opera singers available. In addition to the international talent performing in Israel on a regular basis, some of the best classical musicians in the world are, in fact, Israeli. Itzhak Pearlman, Daniel Barenboim, and Gil Shaham are Israeli born and raised.

Israel is home to all music. It’s possible in one week to see a classical concert, a world-class rock performance, a jazz band in a smoky little dive, an opera in a chandeliered hall, a middle-eastern band, and a small acoustic performance. It is possible that no other country on earth, in one small space, has so much music available to be heard.

For example, the Haifa Blues festival, which hosted Nick Cave one terrific year, or the Peter Paul and Mary performance in Jerusalem’s Sultan Pool in 1979. In the past ten years, international pop stars such as Roger Waters, Paul McCartney, Macy Gray, and Madonna have put on huge concerts in Israel. Musicians continue to flock to Israel and to be born in Israel, despite the politics and constant strife and war, where they are met by high ticket sales and an adoring public. In fact, leafing through a “Time Out” in Tel Aviv can offer over a hundred varied musical performances each week, both local and international. If venturing out of Tel Aviv, the selection is even larger.

There are several centers of musical activity. Tel Aviv, of course, is the largest, and it is possible to go to a different performance every night from every genre and style, even if staying in the city. There are fantastic concerts and shows outside of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, however. Luckily, Israel is a tiny country, and it takes only 40 minutes to reach the Caesarea Amphitheatre from Tel Aviv, and only an hour to Jerusalem. Still, adventurous musical pilgrims can find many treasures outside the big cities. A lot of local Israeli musicians perform in smaller shows in small clubs and pubs just about anywhere in the country. It is not rare to come across a small, acoustic performance by Shalom Chanoch, one of Israel’s top rock singers, in a small venue in the middle of nowhere in the north. For die-hard fans, this is the best way to see a favorite performer.

There are many travel options for music aficionados visiting Israel, and the best way depends on what priorities are set for the trip. Pilgrims that like to plan ahead can buy tickets to bigger concerts online, especially from venues such as the Israeli Philharmonic and the Israeli Opera. This does take some planning and hunting, however, since each site only publishes the concerts performed by them. Many of the ticket agencies also advertise upcoming rock concerts online. Depending on the location of the selected performances, it is possible to book a room in one of the many Tel Aviv hotels, if most of the performances are held there, or to book a Jerusalem hotel, if that is where most of the performances take place.

Another option is to book one or two bigger concerts in advance, and leave the smaller concert selection upon arrival. If renting a car, it is possible to stay at any hotel in Israel, and travel to the musical performances you wish to go to. If staying for a longer period of time, and if planned carefully, there are many Bed & Breakfast type rooms all over the country, especially in the Galilee, which can provide a soothing change from music, but those truly passionate can find many musical performances even in the most remote locations in Israel.

Israel has quiety evolved to be much more than a pilgrimage site for religion or a hot potato of contention creating havoc in the Middle East. Nowadays, the greatest pilgrimage in Israel is the Pilgrimage to Music. Perhaps more than any other country in the world, Israel has the most musical diversity and musical greatness per square kilometer.

Learn To Play Violin – Getting Started Right

Of all of the instruments in the orchestra, the violin is one of the most versatile and loved of all musical instruments. There is hardly any classical score which does not include the violin, which is why its presence is always heard in most musical plays, background tracks in movies, and classical compositions.  Along with the piano, the music made from playing the violin is considered to be among the most romantic.

A violin, one of the two more popular members of the string instrument family, makes distinctive sounds that practically no other instrument can imitate, allowing it to have a “signature” of sorts when being played.  This is why master violin players are said to be able to leave their distinctive “signature” after playing a piece on their violin.  The remarkable thing about the violin is that it can play the entire spectrum of social events – from the usual gala performance for the social elite to the barn dances and square dancing in social halls everywhere.  This is one of the major reasons why a many people want to learn to play the violin.

One of the best choices that anyone can make is to commit to learn to play the violin.  With most people so focused on making money and advancing in their careers, there is precious little time left for enjoyable pastimes such as appreciation of the arts.

A potential student who wants to learn to play the violin should have their own instrument with which to practice. This is essentail since learning while in session with the tutor is just the beginning. Just like any discipline that requires concentration, focus, and a lot of practice, it is best when violin lessons are supplemented with frequent practice between lessons. This practice allows for better recollection and mastery of the art, will ensure that all assignments are not only committed to theoretical and rote memory, but also to muscle memory, which makes playing seem like a piece of cake.

Besides having a good personal instrument with which to play and practice, a student seeking to learn to play violin must also find a good tutor, school or course of study where they will be introduced to the full spectrum of playing styles that are possible when playing the violin.

Get Started Learning Basic Guitar Music

A lot of folks want to play guitar because they think it would be exciting to learn to play the songs of their favorite artists. There are several ways to learn guitar nowadays, but is there a best way to get started with playing the guitar?

I too had this same motivation when I started learning to play guitar about five years ago.  At the time, I wanted to be able to play some cool songs and impress my girlfriend.  So I asked around and found a good guitar teacher who could give me private guitar lessons.  This worked out okay in the beginning, and I learned the guitar basics in my first month.  However, private lessons cost quite a bit of money and after my first month of classes I decided I wouldn’t be able to afford it anymore.  Plus, it was such a hassle to have to go over to my guitar teachers’ house twice a week.

I still wanted to learn guitar though, so I decided to start learning on my own, using the best guitar courses I found on the internet. After practicing for awhile, I was able to play the basic guitar chords and I was able to recognize them by ear.  Most popular songs are made up of the same few basic chords that you learn right from the start.  Once, I got the fundamentals down, soon I was able to play my favorite songs just by listening to them first.

It is amazing to see how many guitar playing tutorials there are on the internet these days.  The best part is that many of these great guitar tutorial sites are completely free.  You can find how to videos that show you everything you need to know about playing a guitar right on Youtube.  If you ever have any problems, then join one of the many guitar forums and you will find several experts able to answer your questions.  Once you’ve taken the time to find these resources, learning to play your favorite guitar songs easy and convenient.  Playing the guitar is such a fun skill, and it never gets tiring impressing your your friends and family with your guitar playing ability.
